If you consume as little as electricity as you can and have solar panels installed, you are just one step away from being independant from coal and gas fueled utilities. This step might come sooner than expected thanks to Tesla.
That’s Elon Musk’s opinion so that must be true. Tesla’s genius founder put yet another nail in the hydrogen coffin and stated what we knew all along : hydrogen is a technology that may well be too complex to ever be significant.

Thomas L Friedman is one of the op-ed columnist of the New York Times. I really liked the vision he is offering in his latest book, Hot, Flat and Crowded. I have to admit I feel the same about his latest column, Their Moon Shot and Ours.
There, Mr. Friedman shows how China is going full speed ahead on electric cars and vehicles, a technology he calls ” the next industrial growth engine “. Indeed, they could revolutionize tomorrow’s world.
Cars produced locally powered by electricity also produced locally may indeed bring a complete paradigm shift with peak oil, the worst economic crisis in decades and climate change.
Many are working on extending the range of electric cars. Here are three of them. Firstly TreeHugger believes that replacing the graphite electrodes in lithium-ion batteries with silicon nanotube electrodes,would multiply the range by ten.
ArsTechnica notes that carbon nanotubes in ultracapacitors ” may make sense in electric cars, even if it can’t store as much as a battery.” Thirdly, IBM is launching a project to enable electric cars to have a range of 500 miles (800 km).
Extending the current range of electric vehicles and cutting the costs of batteries are the two necessary steps to allow mass market commercialization.
