A liter of light, an update

Back to  2011 I wrote about Isang Litrong Liwanag, a Filipino iniative to bring light to people living in the slums of Manila. Years laters, the project has grown, found partners and is expanding globally.

Little after my article, and according to the official website, ” more than 15,000 solar bulbs were installed in 20 Philippines cities (saving residents millions of pesos in electricity bills) “.

But if this wasn’t enough, another NGO ( My Shelter Foundation) spread the idea to other countries and created bases in Peru, Colombia, Egypt or India among others.

The organization is aiming high as it is willing to have a million bottles / bulbs installed worldwide by the end of 2015. Here is the TEDx 2012 video to learn out more :

To conclude, if you are looking for ways to create your own liter of light, the official website provides instructions and even has a Youtube video.
