South Africa to tax carbon by 2015
Will we have a global carbon tax by 2015 ? Even if it is way too early to tell, here are some news in that direction. After China, South Africa plans to enact a carbon tax by this year. Reuters, Bloomberg and All Africa brings us more details.
The tax would be of around $14 (11 euros) per ton. These are important news as the country is currently the largest greenhouse gases emitter of the African continent and the 7th biggest consumer of coal in the world (see this previous article).
