The United Nations Environmental Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization have launched a new campaign to end wasting so much food as 1.3 BILLION tonnes of food are thrown away each year.
The Think, Eat, Save Campaign will target all stakeholders : producers, retailers and consumers as worldwide, about one-third of all food produced gets lost or wasted in food production and consumption systems.
These losses amount to up to a trillion dollar per year. That’s right, 1 300 billion euros are just thrown away in food waste every year. This occurs as there are still hundred of million of starving people all around the world.
