Ikea to invest a billion euros in sustainability measures

Ikea will invest and spend a billion euros ( over $1.10 billion) in renewable energy sources and other climate change related projects. This is an excellent example of Corporate Social responsibility. 

The Financial Times gives us more details :

The family controlled company says it will spend €500m on wind power and about €100m on solar energy over the next five years.

Its charitable arm, the Ikea Foundation, will devote another €400m over the same period to helping people in regions most affected by global warming.

As Ikea’s chief sustainability officer, Steve Howard, stated in the Financial Times :

“If every business and organisation did what we did, we would flip electricity generation into being renewable-based by 2020 or shortly thereafter,”

The Climate Group explains this is just another step for Ikea, which has invested 1.5 billion euros since 2009.

This is another example of current Corporate Social Responsibility practices. I recently found that Apple will invest three billion dollars in solar. The future belongs indeed to solar and the likes…
