India is building the world’s largest solar plant

India's world largest solar plantAccording to Business Insider, India is building the world’s largest solar plant in the northwestern desert state of Rajasthan. The project is due to deliver 4,000 MW of capacity for a price of 280 billion rupee ($4.4 billion, 3.2 billion euros).

Current installed capacity in India is at 2,000 MW. By 2022, 22 GW, or eleven times more, should be installed, with 20 GW would be connected to the grids, and 2 GW being dedicated to rural electricification.

Solar PV is still more expansive than imported coal and gas but this should be the case for long as prices keep on decreasing, from 18 rupees per kilowatt-hour in 2010 to just seven to date.
