Yesterday I added to the sidebar a few links that will allow you to find some reliable information on most energy sources.
I propose here some of my bookmarks which give me an overview of the global energy market, renewable energies and nuclear power.
In this article I give some explanations and comments on them. With time, new links will come and more energy sources will be tackled.
General
- International Energy Agency
According to its website :
The International Energy Agency (IEA) acts as energy policy advisor to 26 Member countries in their effort to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens. Founded during the oil crisis of 1973-74, the IEA’s initial role was to co-ordinate measures in times of oil supply emergencies.
The IEA’s website proposes various publications and papers on all energy sources and on climate change.
- BP Statistical Review
Simply the most simple, comprehensive and easiest to access source. Data on the most important energy sources are available in both PowerPoint or Acrobat files. Some files are available in Excel format.
The BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2007 tells the story of the world’s current and historical energy trends. This edition includes data up to the end of 2006
- European Commission on Energy
A very good source on energy in the European Union. Some data can be read in all languages of the EU. All energy sources are tackled, as well as energy efficiency.
- US Department of Energy
The United States department of energy is a useful place to get data on energy use in this country.
Renewables
- Eurobserv’ER
Eurobserv’ER is part of European Commission on Energy and solely tackles renewable energies. A very good source on the penetration of renewables in the EU. I used their latest report on solar thermal to write this article.
- National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is the nation’s primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development (R&D).
NREL’s mission and strategy are focused on advancing the U.S. Department of Energy’s and our nation’s energy goals.
- DOE Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)
The EERE is the special office for energy efficiency and renewables of the US Department of Energy.
Nuclear
- International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
According to its mission statement :
The IAEA is the world´s center of cooperation in the nuclear field. It was set up as the world´s “Atoms for Peace” organization in 1957 within the United Nations family. The Agency works with its Member States and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technologies.
- World Nuclear
The Website of the World Nuclear Association who describes itself as follow :
The World Nuclear Association is the global private-sector organization that seeks to promote the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear power as a sustainable energy resource for the coming centuries.
Specifically, the WNA is concerned with nuclear power generation and all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, including mining, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication, plant manufacture, transport, and the safe disposition of spent fuel.
- World Nuclear News
This website is depending from the World Nuclear Association and as the name suggests proposes the latests news of this industry.
- Environmentalists for Nuclear (EFN)
Environmentalists For Nuclear Energy (EFN) is an independent environmental, non-profit organization which aims at :
– providing complete and straightforward information to the public on energy and the environment
– promoting the benefits of nuclear energy for a cleaner world
– uniting people in favor of clean nuclear energy
EFN was created in 1996 and claims up to 9,000 members in 56 countries.
