The beginning of the end for fossil fuels

Today, fossil fuels account for the vast majority of energy sources around the world today. This will change in the next decades as we reached a turning point as a new study revealed this week.

According to data quoted by Bloomberg Business, the world now installs more renewable energy capacity than fossil fuels.

Here are some details of these great news :

The shift occurred in 2013, when the world added 143 gigawatts of renewable electricity capacity, compared with 141 gigawatts in new plants that burn fossil fuels, according to an analysis presented Tuesday at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance annual summit in New York.

The shift will continue to accelerate, and by 2030 more than four times as much renewable capacity will be added.

This is explained by so many factors from cheaper solar and wind power to more and more opposition against dirty filthy coal globally.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance got a nice graphic showing the tidal change that is going to take place in the next few years.

fossil fuels versus cleantech

And  I think that graph explains all too clearly why you have to divest from fossil fuels as soon as you can. They just don’t make sense anymore as solar, wind and the likes are cheaper and cheaper each new year.

I am glad to be able to present such news as I come back from a month-long break from blogging. Be sure that I’ll be back on Friday for more…
